ABOUT SUMMIT
The Balkan Alumni Summit is a flagship regional event taking place in Skopje, North Macedonia, bringing together alumni of U.S. government-funded exchange programs from seven countries: North Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Bulgaria. Organized by the Macedonian American Alumni Association (MAAA) with support from the U.S. Embassy, the summit marks MAAA’s 25th anniversary by fostering regional cooperation through a three-day program of expert panels, networking sessions, and hands-on workshops. With a focus on practical solutions in areas such as trade, education, digital innovation, infrastructure, and public service, the summit empowers participants to strengthen professional networks, exchange ideas, and develop impactful community projects that contribute to long-term regional progress.
Founded in 2000, the Macedonian American Alumni Association (MAAA) is a non-profit organization that connects over 3,000 alumni from North Macedonia who have participated in U.S. government-funded exchange and professional programs. MAAA serves as a central network for strengthening U.S.–Macedonian ties and encouraging cooperation across education, business, and public life. Through alumni-led, project-based initiatives supported by the U.S. Embassy, MAAA channels the knowledge and leadership of its members into meaningful contributions to society.
